Mud Pie Fun

A couple of weeks ago Emersyn told me that she wanted to make mud pies.  Hmmmm, I thought to myself, sounds like fun.  So I set her and Maximus up with some cupcake pans, utensils and of course water and dirt.  They had a GREAT time and were so dirty!  GROSS.

But dirty is just fine, because I don't do baths, that joy falls squarely on their daddy's shoulders.  Don't get me wrong, I have been known to give a bath in desperate daddy hasn't been home in a week circumstances, but they usually include bathing suits, Jacuzzi tubs and older siblings. :)

By nature I am not a "player."  I am much better at setting the kids up with activities than getting down on the floor with them.  Realistically I just don't like the silly games,  or running around like a nut.  I don't love doing projects with my kids and I don't like playing Polly Pockets or Little People.  You will rarely find me coloring with them.  I will board games when they are old enough to play.  Just sayin'.

You know what I do like though, finding that one super fun idea that they will just go ga-ga over.  I don't care how messy or annoying it is.  Play-doh or finger paints, goop or rice.  Shaving cream with food color. Highlighters on the windows. Water play in the sink. And, of course, mud pies.  I don't even mind picking it up when they are done.  The 20-30 minutes of peace I get while they are occupied with something fun is worth the trade off to me.

Their father on the other hand is a whole different animal.  He finds giving baths relaxing, and you will NEVER find him breaking out ANY sort of messy toy or craft; I actually think the thought gives him hives.  He would much rather run play baseball with the kids or practice hip-hop moves in the living room.  Wrestling is also a much loved past time.  And even now as I write this he is out in the yard with the kids playing a loud and annoying game of Capture the Flag.

Me, I am going to finish this, post it, and then go inside to get the ice cream ready.  Give me a good mud pie any day.

*please disregard the fact that I have no lawn.  Lesson learned, don't buy a house in the dead of the winter without asking if there is grass under the snow.

Shoe Gooooood.

Today I helped the babies get bundled up so go out in the freezing temperatures because they were so excited to get out in the little bit of snow we have.

Because mom is nowhere as excited about snow and freezing temps as her children are, I laid down one ground rule.  Don't leave the back deck.  That way I could see them from the warmth of the house with a cup of coffee.

They definitely took the rule to heart and did not leave the deck, but that did not stop them from finding treasures!  Like one of Bren's cast off flip-flops covered in snow and ice.

By the time I saw it I didn't have the heart to stop them.

Sorry they are number 5 and 6, apparently I have no more boundaries.

Happy Birthday Miss E!

Today is my sweet girl's 4th birthday!  I know every mom says it but I seriously can not believe that she is already 4!

It seems like yesterday that we brought home this tiny little 4 month old baby from Ethiopia.  And now she is a big girl.   Sweet and sassy,  she is full of things to say and not afraid to let you know when she is mad at you.  Loves all princesses and really loves her some Bubble Guppies (hello dangerous).  She has the BEST hair ever and crazy good hugs. And couldn't take a decent picture if I paid her.

Thank you for adding your awesomesauce to our lives!

Happy Birthday baby, you changed our world.

Love,

Mom and Dad and your brothers and sisters...........

So Sweet

We may have told a certain almost 4 year old a bit too early about her birthday trip to Kalahari Resorts.

As this is how we found her last night when we went up to bed.

I heart this little girl.

Things I Hear......

A couple of days ago Emmy got mad at me because I wouldn't read her a story before bedtime (in my defense it was waaaayyyyy past bedtime), she looked at me so serious and said, "I'm going to cross my arms at you and tomorrow I am going to take daddy to Disney World and get candy and you will have to stay home, if you won't read me a story."

She told me.

But I still didn't read the story.

Nothing Good Tonight...

This little Miss .

Has decided that she is not doing this.....

at least not on her own tonight. So as the mommy it is my duty to take one for the team and snuggle and cuddle her until...she (or I) fall asleep. It's a hard job but somebody has to do it.

And Again

Flour in the dog food... Apparently we need to work on proper placement in our household. First dog food in the deep fryer and now this.

Maybe I just need to watch them better. :)

A New Event

Emersyn is training for a new event. Diaper Diving! We are pretty sure that you will be seeing this event in the next Olympics. She is really working hard at it. We are going for the GOLD! Pun intended.
